Gotcha day

How To Bake A Dog-Friendly ‘Gotcha Day’ Cake

The day you brought your forever friend home deserves celebrating, and what better way than with a cake?

At Pointer, we love seeing owners use our treats in fun, creative ways. Whether it’s making ‘picky bits platters’ or picnics, birthday celebrations or baking days – we’ve seen it all, and we’re inspired.

With that in mind, here’s our advice on how to bake the perfect “Gotcha Day” cake for your furry friend.

What’s A Gotcha Day?

But first, if you’re wondering, what actually is a Gotcha Day?

If you adopted your pooch or aren’t sure on their birth date, your Gotcha Day – the anniversary of when you brought them home – is the one to celebrate!

It’s like their birthday; it’s a day to celebrate your canine companion and the bond you’ve built. Basically, to give them all the love that they deserve.

Plus, it’s a great excuse to do something you love together, give some extra cuddles, and maybe even some tasty treats!

Our Dog-Friendly Gotcha Day Cake Recipe

Cakes are at the heart of our celebrations as humans, so why not give your pup the same treatment?

We’ve curated a pup-approved recipe that can be baked and enjoyed as part of their Gotcha Day celebrations.

Start by mixing together:

1lb of ground turkey or beef

1 egg

½ cup of oats

½ cup of grated carrots

¼ cup of finely chopped spinach

Before shaping into a cake tin and baking at 175°C for 25-30 minutes.

Once cooled, go the extra mile by frost with mashed sweet potatoes and garnish with some of our Pointer treats.

We’d recommend some gravy bones to line the edges of the cake, or why not use our new Pointer mini dogs instead of candles? This is your time to get creative!

When ready, slice up and enjoy (but don’t forget to snap a picture – and tag us @pointerpetproducts– first).

Gotcha Day Cake Alternatives

Got too much fun planned and no time to bake a cake? Don’t fret!

A great alternative to a dog-friendly cake is a ‘barkcuterie’ board, a spread that combines your dog’s favourite treats.

You can use some cut up apple, peanut butter, and carrots (which are all safe for dogs). Or curate a board of their favourite Pointer treats. From our extra crunchy Chicken Flavoured Bones to our tasty Meaty Beefy Rolls, we have a range of treats that your pup will love.

Other Ways To Celebrate Your Gotcha Day

Now you’ve sorted the treats, there are many other ways to mark your pup’s special day too. Here’s some of our top picks:

Give back: Why not give back to the adoption centre you rehomed them from? Could you give a donation, or donate some new toys for other dogs who are waiting for their Gotcha Day to come around?

Invite the whole pack: Get the whole gang involved! If your pup has some friends that would love to join in on the celebrations, invite them round. Your dog’s presence will have made an impact on many pups and humans alike, let everyone celebrate their special day.

Share some special time together: Is there a particular activity you love to do together? Maybe that’s a long walk in the woods, or a visit to get a Pointer Pick ‘N’ Mix? Give an extra bit of time to doing something you both enjoy.

We’ve shared lots of ways that you can mark your dog’s ‘Gotcha Day’ together. Whether it’s baking a cake, throwing a party or just some extra cuddles and treats.
