Picnic

Is there anything more British than packing up a picnic basket when the sun decides to make an appearance? And of course, our four-legged friends deserve to join in the fun with some special treats of their own!

While we always recommend keeping a pack of Pointer treats in your picnic basket for convenience (our Meaty Beefy Rolls and brand new Mini Dogs travel particularly well!), there’s something rather lovely about preparing homemade goodies for your canine companion’s outdoor adventures too.

So, grab your apron and let’s whip up some delicious, dog-friendly picnic treats that will have tails wagging at your next outdoor excursion!

3 Delicious Dog-Friendly Picnic Treat Recipes

Ready to get baking? Here are three simple yet scrumptious recipes that are perfect for packing in your picnic basket alongside your dog’s regular Pointer treats.

Cooling Cucumber & Yoghurt Bites

Perfect for warmer weather, these refreshing treats help keep your pup hydrated during outdoor adventures.

Ingredients:

1 cucumber, finely diced

250g plain, unsweetened yoghurt (check it doesn’t contain xylitol)

1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Method:

Mix all ingredients in a bowl until well combined

Spoon the mixture into an ice cube tray or small silicone moulds

Freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight

Pop them out and pack in a cooler bag for your picnic!

Serving suggestion: These are brilliant to offer when your dog needs cooling down after an energetic play session.

Cheesy Carrot Biscuits

These crunchy, cheesy biscuits travel well and won’t crumble in your picnic basket.

Ingredients:

150g wholemeal flour

50g grated carrot

50g grated cheddar cheese

1 egg

2 tablespoons water

Method:

Preheat your oven to 180°C

Mix all ingredients in a bowl until a dough forms

Roll out on a floured surface to about 1cm thickness

Cut into small shapes using cookie cutters

Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and crisp

Allow to cool completely before packing

Serving suggestion: These go perfect with our Cheese and Bacon Flavoured Toastees  for those extra flavoursome feasts

Peanut Butter & Apple Treats

These soft treats are perfect for older dogs or those who prefer a gentler chew.

Ingredients:

1 apple, grated (remove seeds and core)

120g oats

2 tablespoons natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)

1 egg

Method:

Preheat your oven to 170°C

Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a bowl

Drop spoonfuls onto a lined baking tray

Flatten slightly with the back of a spoon

Bake for 12-15 minutes until set but still slightly soft

Cool completely before storing

Serving suggestion: These go perfectly with a good long walk, just like our Peanut Butter Flavoured Paws!

While these homemade treats are wonderful for special occasions, we always recommend keeping some trusty Pointer treats in your picnic basket too. Our baked treats are expertly crafted for the perfect balance of nutrition and taste, ensuring your pup stays happy and healthy during all your outdoor adventures.

Homemade picnic treats for dogs

Remember, homemade treats should complement rather than replace your dog’s regular diet. They’re perfect for those special picnic occasions when the whole family – including the four-legged members – deserves a little something extra!
